Steve Hall started creating engineering software in 1979, shortly after he bought his first PC (an Apple ][+). He graduated from BASIC to VisiCalc, transitioned to SuperCalc and Lotus 1-2-3, and finally settled on Excel as his go-to software platform. He's a chemical engineer (BS ChE, University of Pennsylvania) with an MBA.
